Q: Hey, I’m about to graduate from Highschool in San Jose, CA in a few months and I want to become a firefighter after or during college. I’m just trying to find out what’s the best. Even if it’s out of state. Also if anyone knows of any places where I can take classes to become an EMT?
A: Check with your local fire department and/or ambulance service and see who they recommend. Are you planning to be a career firefighter? What college are you planning to attend? I’d recommend going to a college where you can get a Fire Science Technology degree. EMT-Basic (or EMT-2 in CA) is usually part of that coursework, as it is at the college I attend.
