I have to say that Seattle is one of the highest paid cities to be a firefighter. Even though they will not hire you unless you go through recruit school (even if you've been working as a Firefighter or EMT elsewhere) , I think this an added bonus that everyone starts on an even playing field. It is kind of like a quality assurance control and frankly it makes sense.

Advice for prospective applicants:

Just FYI, The University of Washington is the only school in Seattle that offers qualified classes for Paramedics and you must be a Seattle Firefighter to attend the Paramedic training. This is a really common thing you need to know.
