It is a combination career and volunteer organization providing fire suppression, emergency medical, technical rescue, fire prevention and educational services to more than one million citizens. Fairfax County encompasses 395 square miles of urban and suburban development, 10 miles west of Washington, D.C.

They deserve this rating because of their implementation of the good ol' boy system and their resistance to change and new ideas.

Fairfax is a good county to work for. Everyone is willing to help and teach you new things.

Advice for prospective applicants:

Just work hard and have fun. If you are looking to run fire you may catch some good fire once in awhile. You run more EMS.

This is a top-notch department. They have tremendous community support, excellent equipment, and a great working environment.
