EUGENE, OR – An Oregon police officer and firefighters saved a pet store owner from a 12-foot Burmese python, using a screw driver to open the snake’s jaws.

Sgt. Ryan Nelson told the Eugene (Ore.) Register-Guard his first thought when he reached the store Thursday was to cut off the python’s head. But Teresa Rossiter, who owns Best Friends with her husband, begged him not to, even though the snake was biting her ring finger and coiled around her body.

While Rossiter lay on the floor, the snake slowly tightening its grip, Nelson put on gloves and tried getting the mouth open. A firefighter poured cold water on its head, which did not work either.

Finally, a firefighter used the screw driver while Nelson pulled Rossiter to safety. He then wrangled the angry snake into its cage.

Rossiter said she opened the cage to show off the python and forgot she had been handling mice.

What about a Co2 freeze out?? Use a co2 extinguisher to cause the snake to slow it's reactions and more than likely it would have released her?? would like to have tried just to see what would have happened?????

I own a snake. He's a wuss. I would not have even gotten out of the truck for a snake I didn't know but I'm a big chicken, too!

Holy snakes, LOL. That would be one wild experience and I would have to say I would have been stunned and probly in shock. When the issues arise we react quickly with out thought. Hey screw driver worked. Who knew? Always think things are the same, NEVER.

Responding on ANY piece of equipment, engine, truck, or rescue, last time I looked all carry the "irons". One whack and it's a done deal! No matter what the store owner said.
