Fire Officials Question Control Burn on "Red Flag" Day
The Palm Beach Post
May 08, 2008
PALM BEACH, FL – Fire chiefs at Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue are going to call officials at the South Florida Water Management District today to find out why they ignited a controlled burn on a “red flag” day that indicates conditions are hazardous.
“We had a lot of resources tied up on that fire for quite a few hours, as well as Florida Division of Forestry,” said fire-rescue spokesman Don DeLucia. “I don’t know the circumstances. I don’t know if they didn’t check on the weather.”
The fire on Wednesday afternoon spread more than 100 acres west of State Road 7 and Clint Moore Road near Boca Raton.
DeLucia said the water management district also lost a pick-up truck that was burned in the blaze.
