Stolen Canoe Capsizes, Rescue Divers Search for Body

ORLANDO, FL – The Orange County Sheriff’s dive team has found the body of a 22-year-old Orlando man who drowned in Lake Waunatta.
Christopher Mayo body was found just after 1 p.m., nearly 12 hours after crews began searching the lake.
Mayo and two other men were riding in a stolen canoe on the lake when the boat began to capsize, according to Orange County Fire Rescue. Shortly after 2 a.m., a neighbor on East Road heard the men yell for help. Her husband headed out in his boat to help.
When he reached the men, he found only two – brothers Robert and Edward Geib – were in the water, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Rescue crews began searching the lake with boats and divers. So far, the canoe and Mayo’s shoes have been found.
The sheriff’s dive team is now working on recovery. The two brothers will not be charged with the theft of the canoe because the owner declined to prosecute.
