Fire Chief Lied to Cover Up Firefighter Sex Case

HARRISON TWP, OH – Fire Chief Mark Lynch lied about and tried to cover up incidents involving a firefighter who had sex in the fire station while on duty while other firefighters watched, according to a Montgomery County Sheriff’s investigation.
Lynch was suspended for 20 days for failing to follow departmental disciplinary policy. In a report filed May 15, sheriff’s investigators said he showed “improper conduct” and “was untruthful and insubordinate” for not reporting and lying to township officials about part-time firefighter Brian L. Scott having sex with a woman while on duty.
The Dayton Daily News obtained the report through a public records request. The report included a summary of a polygraph Scott took March 21.
Lynch told township administrator Randy Brooks on March 31 the allegations against Scott “were not true,” according to the report. But by that time, Scott had already told the polygrapher that while on duty, he had sex with two women at least three separate times in the bunk room of the firehouse at 2400 Turner Road, according to a summary of the examination.
Lynch ordered the polygraph as a “pre-offer” screen of Scott’s financial, criminal and personal past because Scott was being offered a full-time position in the department, the sheriff’s report said.
On April 1, Brooks asked the sheriff’s office to investigate. Three days later, in a letter to Brooks, Lynch admitted walking into the bunk room “approximately two years ago” and finding Scott in bed with a woman. Both were nude. When he opened the door further, he discovered that two other firefighters were in the room, although they were clothed.
Lynch said he elected not to report the incident. Scott resigned April 9.

Maybe someone had dirt on the Chief. There is a reason why he was so intimidated by the whole situation that he viewed resignation as his only option. Leadership is, afterall, Leadership. Not friendship.

Why would the chief even consider the idea of a cover up? Whats really goin' on. Could there be an even more grim "reality" (circumstance) behind it all? I'm willing to bet that the chief's resignation was the greater cover-up. How deep does the rabbit hole go?

Miss ilovemyfireman, it doesn't surprise me that there are outspoken, poorly educated, misguided, and clearly jaded people like you out there. I'm not saddened, however.. you're stupidity irritates me. I am a female firefighter. I am 22, 5'5", 150lbs and I can handle 200 pounds of dead weight. 90% of the female firefighters that I know, and I know dozens, are wholesome, respectable, professional women. There are a few who cave to lust and do immorale acts. There are many more men willing to do so... It's simply that you're over generalizations, based on your personal experiences and the (i'm sure) few female firefighters you know, is offensive.

It may have been inapropriate to have sex while on duty and maybe against the SOP but what is the big deal? The person who should be punished the worst is the Chief for covering it up. They could just suspend Scott with out leave for a period of time.

It is a bad deal what happened and being a chief I understand why he would want to keep it from the public. On the other hand I think that ilovemyfireman is WAY out of line on pretty much everything she said. It says nowhere in the article that the woman involved was a firefighter or that Mr. Scott was married. Where she is getting her idea that the girl was a "Homewrecker" from this article is beyond me. I agree that she must have some deeper issues and this article set it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow i cant believe we have a women bashing other female firefighters on here. sounds like someone either had it done to her or was one of those homewreckers. Cause I know that not everyone is like that. Male or Female we all should all be held as equal. So as far as Im concerned they could both be married and having an affair therfore thier both homewreckers not just the female involved. So think twice before you pass judgement on to others man or woman. Besides i think it take alot of courage and morals to put your life on the line to help others so dont go around saying thes women dont have morals. No matter what job you have there will always be some kind of corruption in that field cause nothing in this world is perfect. God bless and stay safe
