Crisp County Georgia Loses one of its Finest
Crisp County Fire Rescue Stunned
September 02, 2008
Capt. Robert Bowen with Crisp County Fire suffered a heart attack and died today while working on a pump for Cairo FD. Another CCFR member was with him and CPR was begun immediately. All attempts proved unsucessful. Capt. Bowen worked on fire engine pumps all over the south-east and his services will be missed greatly.
He served as captain of B shift here at CCFR. He led his shift with a gruff exterior and a heart of gold. His booming voice could be heard through the walls and rookies always thought he was mad, but that was just normal for him. It was his unique way of getting and holding your attention. We often joked that he didn't need a portable radio on scene. He became a paid FF in 1992 and advanced to captain. He had been a volunteer LT and volunteer for Crisp County for many years previous to his paid position.
We have all shared many good memories with Capt. Bowen over the years. Please keep his family in your prayers. Thank you all. Marty K. Black
