I purchased one of these single TurboFlare 360 units about five years ago. Purchased it as a clearance item at Sears and found it to be nearly indestructible. After taking it to the next Fire Meeting we decided to run over it with the 4500 Gallon Freight Liner Cab Over Tender. It came out without any issues other than a few scratches. It is incredibly bright at night and definetly commands attention. During the day however it works fairly well but, not in bright conditions. Smoke from a flare will work better in these circumstances.

Although not necessarily designed to be used for Landing Zone Operations, we have found them to be an invaluable asset. Both Life Flight and MAST have commented on how easy it was to find the LZ. Also, MAST says they are visible through their IR Goggles even though there are no IR Emitters. The department purchased three 8 packs to keep one on the Ambulance, One on the Rescue, and one on the primary Engine. It has been invaluable and has saved tons of money on the cost of Flares.

Furthermore, I have never replaced the batteries in my unit. 6 AA Duracell Batteries is all it takes. I have seen other models but, this one is the thinnest and best designed on the market. Stay away from the rechargeable units. The battery life span is not as long and the cost to replace rechargeable batteries is not great. Also, these are non incideary and will not start fires nor cause an explosion with a combustible.
I bought my first three off the clearance rack at Sears too. Wish I could find them there again! If you want to purchase but don't like the price check out eBay. I bought five of these off eBay for only $55.00!!
As a rescue technician for the county rescue squad, we are utilized quite a bit for traffic control on accident scenes, among other things. In fact, thats about 98% of what we are paged for. These are lifesavers, especially out on the state HWY in our jurisdiction. (Through which everyone decides to still go 80 mph through an accident 'zone') They are easy to use and to set up, but most importantly, to see. They are a great asset on helping to light up a landing zone for helicopters as well. Great product!
these would be great because they can be seen better, and you dont need to go put down more flares every 20 or 30 minutes
