This is by far the safest eye protection configuration I heve ever scene in a fire helmet. The visor slides up inside the helmet to protect it from carbon build up and comes down enough to conform to your face and prevent objects from getting underneath it, protecting your eyes. If you haven't tried one of thes I highly recomend it.

Even if you have the 1010 without the shield you can install one very easily. Although you do have to drill in several places. I use my shield all the time for vehicle extrication and to keep the wind and dust out of my eyes while on scene. I highly recommend this product.

Great helmet but acording to NFPA you need some other type of eye protection beside your shield. Wish mine had that style on it since it's looks cooler this way.

Love it - I can actually see through the face shield because it isn't getting scratched and crappy when it isn't in use. Note: folks who wear eyeglasses are not usually able to use this style of shield because it bangs on the rims of the glasses or won't go over them. I keep my glases tight so I can just make it. You get the great look of a fire helmet without the junk on the front!

If you want a great helmet here it is. No more broken lenses when you pull it out of your bag, or locker. The use of the impact cap is awesome, helps relieve the full blow to the head. if you dont want the paint go for the 1044 which is fiberglass and if it gets scratched it want show as bad as the paint.

it is light but for me too light , good all around lid all of our officers have these. the defenders work prettty well just hurts your nose if you flip them down too hard

You really can't go wrong with a 1010 helmet. Once you break in the face shield it works great, the first couple of times if you're not careful you'll whack your nose pretty hard. Best composite out there.

i've been looking at buying one of these for sometime but the one thing that has held me back on it is how well does it work with scba masks? i've got a cairns 660c with the 4in faceshield and i love it and just like having the option of puttin somethin over my mask just for that extra protection.

Traditional style helmets are typically top heavy, not so with the Defender face shield. I like mine a lot but it takes some getting used to it. With the original face shield more of your face doesn't feel so exposed.

ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT USED ONE OF THESE, I THINK THIS IS A GREAT DESIGN BECUSE THE EYE SHIELD IS PROTECTED INSIDE THE HELMENT, THE DESIGN REMINDS ME OF A PILOTS HELMET.

I have the same setup but instead of the 1010 I have the 1044. I oredered the defender shield seperately and it was so easy to install. I didnt have to do any drilling, i just swapped the old impact cap for the the defender version and it was ready to go. And the ability to change the shield to a different color depending on conditions is really easy.

By far the best eye protection avaliable with simply a structural helment, visor slides down easily and is easily accessible right above the ear
