Okay I am going to buy a new truck so I need some opinions on the subject. Here is what they have to have...four door, 4x4, short wheel base.So if anyone has one of these please let me know your likes and dislikes. Is diesel better or gas,,,why? This truck will be used for travel as well as getting to the deer woods.....Yes a new truck in the woods lol

I will choose chevy over ford any day although right now i have a jeep grand cherokee and i honestly love it, the only downside to 4X4 all the time is 13.7 miles to the gallon. Oh yeah and a truck aint a truck till it has been in the woods

I drive the same thing now...the jeep I hate it. I have noticed a lot more Chevy's than Fords around hear..... as far as the gas thing nothing can get worse than the mountaineer i had about 5 mpg...but why Chevy over ford had trouble have you?

See which dealer offers the better deal. They are both good American Trucks ,I have owned a half dozen of both.

I inherited my father's 94 GMC 1500. This truck has over 235,000 on it and it was beat to hell when my father had it. He upgraded to a Chevy 2500HD. I have been looking at both Fords and Chevys this past week as new Brush/Rescue truck for my fire dept and have been finding that Chevy was running from $500 to $1,000 cheaper than a Ford on the MSRP. If you are looking for a long lasting truck that you can do some of your own maintenance on, go with a Chevy. When my father got his new truck we were looking under the hoods of both Chevy and Ford. The Chevy had a lot more room under the hood and you could see the spark plugs. The Ford had a lot less room and we couldn't find the plugs on it. In the end it will come down to what you really want and what you can afford to buy.

We compared prices here and they are running about the same. We may get a deal through Lances boss' place ...he has a ford dealership. That's kinda funny about the room under the hood the chief on Lances' department just got a new Chevy and was saying there was no room under the hood to work....he was setting up his lights.Looked like plenty of room to me..lol but i can get into pretty small places. Thanks maplehill02

Ford, I have owned Chevy in the past and I do not like the suspension of the Chevy. While riding these AR roads they tend to give to much. When I loaded the Chevy with fire wood, it would hit the overload springs every time. I drive a Ford F-250 4X4 Gas, now and would only trade for a better MPG gas hog. Diesel is much better if you can afford the Fuel. The Torque is better and the throttle response way better. I would go for the Diesel, it does get better fuel mileage than Gas.

2004 F150 FX4 for me. Zero complaints. 5.4L. Gas mileage is OK. Stock tires were crappy but I fixed that. Works well off road and on.

I prefer Toyota over either due to the higher resale value and the overall quality of the build and comfort and power. just my two cents :) Take a look at my photos for the new 2008 Tundras. I absolutely LOVE IT!!!

Well, I guess I'm spoiled, because I had a 1968 International Harvester "Travelall." Great, sturdy vehicle except for a tendency to blow out water pumps...hauled a trailer with it camping for ages. Dad & I rebuilt the engine and it went from 9 mpg to an amazing 14, even before I put on the Hooker headers and glasspacks (OK, it was the '70s, when that was considered good gas mileage, but a 50% improvement is pretty impressive). I wanted to put in a huge stereo, with living-room-sized speakers in back and a power booster, make the back interior into a giant sleeping surface by turning it into a beanbag with packing peanuts and vinyl stapled over it. Unfortunately I totaled it before I could tweak it out. Being in one's 20s can be a prescription for disaster; glad I survived that decade.

Yes, but, the old IH was a good truck. Familiar.

I think we are probable leaning toward a Chey

although lance brought in a Ford...it had movable pedals (just what I need so I can reach them ) LOL

Think of it this way......

Are you buying the truck to use, or to sell? Do you want those movable pedals? Does it need the Duramax diesel? Blah, blah, blah.

Go look. Drive them all....HARD. Test them. See what you like, or not. Then pick.

Personally, when I buy again, it will be a Ford. My opinion and mine only. Let us know what you pick.

He's actually trying to help! I think he's trying to put it into 2 different columns for you, so to speak. He's right about test driving it hard though. That's the fun part anyway! :)

One more thing if you plan on doing your own work on this truck Chevy is the way to go. I am a mechanic and Fords are the worst autos to work on. Chevys are easyer to work on ,they ride better ,last longer, and you get more money on resale
