You can take the first 3 parts as a junior. The only part you have to be 18 for is the last part, the interior part.

Im not from PA nor do I live in PA, but from everyone I have talked to, you have to be atleast 18 to do anything that will require you to use power tools and or SCBA, whether its for training or an actual call. but you could call the school and ask them about the age requirements.

ok. we're allowed to use hydraulic tools under DIRECT supervision, and we can use packs in training scenarios.

I dont know if the mods are the same as the Firefighter one and two, but in MI you have to be 18 to enter the classes for one and two

Well then the only other thing I can suggest is for you to sign up and go take the cert. all they can say to you is, come back when your 18 or you can take the first couple parte now then when you turn 18 you can finish

In the state of Iowa, you have to be 18. But if you have spent more then 2 weeks on the dept, essentials is pretty much a waste of time.

In the state of PA you have to follow the child labor laws and the academies have other restrictions. You may take the first two mods for essentials at 14. Until you are 16 you can not operate on ladders or use an SCBA until your 18. This means that you have to bee 18 to complete the mod 4and take Firefighter 1 exam.

i stand corrected on the 4th module...you do have to be 18 to do the burn. however, u can use a SCBA before u turn 18, u just cant enter a burning structure.

its not the fact that they're a waste of time or not...it show the dept you have some formal training to go with. and technically u have to have at least that to operate on the firegrounds. (here in PA)

You can use SCBA at in house training but you still can't take the 4th mod until you're 18.

i agree 100% 238. thats exactly what i meant. u can use the SCBA for operations on the fireground, AS LONG AS u are not entering a burning structure, or a structure that has been declared "under control".

Well Crawford County is well... different to say the least. In Erie county if you're under 18 and/or don't have the 4th mod of essentials it doesn't matter if you're going in or not, you can't use an SCBA

That is almost like saying that you don't need to take basic math if you are planning to take calculus. Or, that you don't need CPR if you are going to attend paramedic school.

The essentials, at least as I know them, are representative of the basics. The basics cannot be forgotten or left behind. Even if you have advanced far beyond them.
