Hi all,

I'm trying to write a paper and the topic is the effects of increased regulations and requirements and their impact on volunteer organizations. I see this happening in my dept but don't have the resources or numbers to back it for a paper. Can anyone please help???? Any information, numbers, or links would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!!!

Most and I mean most Vol. depts. can not and will never be able to afford to meet NFPA regs. They are lucky to meet ISO. Also after 9/11 and the federal grant program came to be, the prices of equipment have skyrocketed because all of this money became available. Here are just some examples.

Turn-outs were about $600 – $800 a set. Now $800 to $1500

Air-packs were about $3500. Now the new 2008 NFPA compliant are $6800

For us, most of our fire trucks meet the ISO standards, however not NFPA. Our budget is $17,000 a year not counting fundrasiers, and the cost of a new mini- pumper is in acess of $100,000. We are also paying of a 2002 Freightliner 2,000 GAL tanker for $102,000... still have 5 years to pay on it (10,000 a year from our budget).
