Posted 5 months ago In the areas that they started it was dry enough, but it was still wet enough for them to not spread too much. If they would have spread we would have been screwed. The wind was also in our favor and blew the fire back towards the middle, aiding in us putting it out. The longest one took two hours to put out, which is pretty fast for the brush fires that we normally see in our area. The shortest one took about a half hour, give or take a few.

Posted 5 months ago Here in New England most of our brush fires are small - tiny compared to the wild fires that make the TV/news. Still, they represent some of my favorite calls. Most of the time no one is in jeopardy and we all get to go out and play. (We still watch for snags and widow makers and plan escapes etc...)

Posted 4 months ago We had our 1st one last week- 2ft x 6ft if that. Ok so that doesn't qualify for much. Some of the other depts have already had a few. We are expecting quite a few here in Eastern WA. We were so wet and dried quickly.

Posted 4 months ago I completely forgot about the one we had a couple weeks ago. It was 2 acres. It started in a garden while a guy was burning garbage. At the time, we were at the one department having a wildland firefighter class, kind of ironic. But we had so many people there it was out in less than an hour. When I arrived, the whole two acres was on fire and we were just beginning a fire line. Just to give some perspective.
