I know 4 different guys that have been over there as contract firemen and they all didnt last a year cause the companies dont take care of them and they dont have the stuff to do their job. they had three sets of gear for 14 firefighters but had 100 cases of TP. and they had three trucks but only enough fuel for 1 truck

Didn't have much interaction with the fire crews over there, I was with 3rd ACR, so spent most of our time on patrol, or acting as QR.  ( We were actually on a QRF run when we got ambushed).

Tazz, whats your unit?

I met a guy who was going over there for the 2nd time as a ff.  He said you occasionally put out a tent fire and the rest is sitting around.  If i had the qualifications i would go do it thats for sure.

There is more action over there than tent fires...... A bunch of In-Flights are par for the course, with a few HAZMAT deals here and there not to mention TRAINING.....And volunteer'n on your days off in the ER, or being assigned work on your days off like pouring concrete and make'n sidewalks and such.

I wasn't a fire fighter over there but a combat engineer but I thought about what it would be like. I originally wanted the firefighting MOS, but gave it up. What better way to fight fire than with an M16. Ohh-Rah!

I have a fello fire fighter over there now and also had another over there about a year ago. There was nothing said about gear or fuel problems but they are on call 24/7. Som of the training you need (I think) FF1, FF2, hazmat ops, terriorism a\nd some type of EMS. They told me that they went to some base in the US for military fire fighting training. I would like to go but not sure I can be away from my family for a year and miss alot of there growing up. Did hear 85 % of the money you make is tax free. Who ever goes over ther wish  you best of luck and be safe.

If I do go, I would'nt mind the overtime as long as I am getting paid. Dont care about the free time, just the pay time. I will miss the family, but you can come home every for months for ten days and communicate with the daily.

I have been checking with wackenhut. Any body know much about them?

Been there, and plan on going back. I actually volunteered to go over. I served there in 2004 as the USAF Fire Chief at an airfield. I had some dealings with some of the contractors that were there. All I will say is that those dealings were not the best, enough said about that.
