Pager goes off and...

Posted 2 months ago What has been the most inconvinient time or place to have your pager go off and what did you do? Did you respond? (i.e. restaurants, church, etc) |

| Posted 2 months ago Gonna plead the 5th on the most inconvienant time (yes, it involved me and my girlfriend).....but yes, I did respond. Ross Caston

| Posted 2 months ago No matter how inconviniement it may, there are a lot of people in your community that are relying on your for help. If you are in the area, you should go! I haven't had any extreamly inconvinient times when the pager went off, but i would always respond. They will be there when you get back. HAHA |

| Posted 2 months ago hmmmm lets see I was just picking my girlfriend up to go to my senior year in high school homecoming game and dance. We drove right up on a house fire. Well we did get to go to the dance. |

| Posted 2 months ago Probably going to be at Church, but luckily it was on vibrate mode. I did respond though. There are 8 of us that go to church together on the same Vol. Dept. Its going to be kinda comical when we get a major call when we need everybody and 8 people jump up to go!!!! LOL!!! |

| Posted 2 months ago CCFR, when I was a youngster, my dad was Chief of the FD and he and several of the firefighters went to the same church. One Sunday was the beginning of revival and the evangelist was deep into his "fire-and-brimstone" sermon when the pager goes off. You should've seen the look on his face when 5-6 guys got up and ran out.
He stood there with his mouth wide open for at least thirty seconds before he finally stammered, "Did I say something wrong?" The preacher had to explain to him that the guys were all volunteer firefighters and they'd gotten a call.
I'll second what k5kowboy said, but add the fact that my girlfriend is a reporter... we both responded to the call, me to fight the fire and she to report on it. |

| Posted 2 months ago I have 2 that come to mind- 1st one was about 11:30 at night and 4 of us stop to get a bite to eat. We had just finished eating when the pager went off for a cow in the river. 3 of us jump up before the 4th new what was happening and we ran out leaving him with the check. (he left his pager in the truck) He figured it out and and left a big tip since he didn't have change. You would have thought the donut shop had a sale on coffee and donuts. Every cop in Spokane was on that call. 2nd- We had just completed a search on the river and at least 12 of us went to eat. Buffett style and we had just sat down to eat when the pager went off and out we went. Good thing for that rest you pay 1st. One of the last ones out was stopped by the manager who ask's if it was the food. |

| Posted 2 months ago hmmmm most inconvient time.........I think for me it also involved me and my fiance', but another time was when I was in the middle of shopping. I will always go if I have the ability to. I feel I took on this position and I know what my duties are so I have to respond when within tone range. |

| Posted 2 months ago First, was a church page out. Bad enough that half the congregation including the pastor got up to go on the call. Pretty bad day when the pastor has to go and church is postponed.

| Posted 2 months ago Well I have to say during sex. But to me and some of you may agree, Fighting fire is better than sex! She understands! It just gets better when I get back for her, usually my adreline and blood is pumping! Go figure! "Hell, these are Marines. Men like them held Guadalcanal and took Iwo Jima. Bagdad ain't shit." I had the same scenario, but I radioed in my chief and said I would be delayed a few minutes. I eventually did respond though, after making sure she was happy. |

| Posted 2 months ago During sex, on the way to church, grocery shopping with my 10yr old, BBQ at my brother-in-law's house. You name it. Calls usually never happen when it'sconvenient for us....at least as volunteer's. I still won't give it up so. Besides fighting fire CAN be better than sex!! Heres a funny story: Right after we had a structure fire call, we went to the local Waffle House to cure that post-structure-fire-HUNGER we had at 2:30 in the morning. We sit down, in turnout's and everything (I know that is not the brightest thing but we were exhausted) we get out drinks and order our food....then the tones drop....MVC with injuries. We TORE out of there and ran that call. After the call we went back....and she had our food HOT and ready! She told the cook to hold our order until she saw the fire truck drive by. Needless to say she did get a REALLY good tip for that.

| Posted 2 months ago No doubt, we've all had it. That's the thing about being volunteer, you're ALWAYS on duty. You name, I've had it interrupted by the tones, and yes, I always drop and run. That's why my wife says she won't join...says she's already given the F.D. enough, and I really can't argue with her. we have a standing joke at our local F.D. eatery, that when more than two of us come in for lunch, they'll be holding our food waiting for us to return from a call, especially in the summer. A lot of times it holds true. My first call ( I posted about it a few days ago ) came on Christmas Eve when I was 15, I was next up to open my presents, I went, I guess that's where I learned to just roll with it. |

Well I mean sex is great but when that tone goes off, I'm gone! Well unless it's some stupid grass fire or a cat in a tree, then I stay. But if it is a structural fire then I'm gone. Beside she get's the benifit when I get back. If you know what I mean. Maybe "better" than sex is exaggerating a little bit. It's just a different kind of love. "Hell, these are Marines. Men like them held Guadalcanal and took Iwo Jima. Bagdad ain't shit." "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem." United States Marine Corps |

| Posted about 1 month ago Last night I went out to dinner with the wife. They had just set down in front of me my $20 prime rib dinner. As I pick up the fork my pager goes off. I kept looking from the prime rip to my pager and back. I finaly set down the fork and went to the call. As soon as i walk in to the station it got recalled. go figger |

| Posted about 1 month ago Worst timing for me has been instances of four wheeling, where it's going to take an hour to even get to a paved road, then about 45 mins to get to the station. |

Same with the mountain bike. Doesn't do much good to try to respond when you've been on the trail for over an hour. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Yeah, I've seen a few of the guys buy the siren package for their bikes, then realise that it was a pretty foolish w ay to waste money, typically by the time they would get to the station everyone is on their way back. it DOES have an advantage though, atleast someone is handy to do a quick wash down of the trucks |

| Posted 9 days ago For me, in the middle of a shower. I hate trying to put on clothes when your skin is all wet especially quickly. |
