I just finish a Vmsi training course on driver training. We have this training 8hour class once a year. We are required to take the 16 hour class when hired. Does your Dept have and requirements in driver training?

our department dose not require the course but it is stronly advised the only other way that our part time FF can drive our apperatus is with a class B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsments. But with people being soo happy now days they prefer the course.

In NY, we are required to take an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course.  We have 12 hours of classroom instruction and eight hours behind the wheel testing.

I did that when I was there , but also feel ALL drivers should have a class B w/  tanker endorsment . and Air Brakes. but it should be up to the Dept. sops.

I had just asked my Chief if the Dept . will help me get my Tanker endos. and he said NO !! Because our trucks are not DOT Inspected. And the state of TN. spects trucks out the way they want them ,just enough to pass DOT .we have a 2006 Inter. w/1000 gal . and that classifies as a tanker also . But mentioned that the only thing we have to worrie about is taking EVOC,
