I can remember those Saturday early morning work details and hose tests I love the fire house my department has alot of fun. We joke with eachother like when I almost responded to my first alarm without my turn out gear I left it in my trunk lol.  but the brothers in my department are my family I dont know what I do without the brotherhood of the fire department.

We have a lot of fun at most of our trainings. They are my family away from my family and we all do try to get together here and there away from the dept with our families. We try at least once a year to have a picnic, play softball (hogs and hosers) with the police dept and at least a BBQ at someone's home.

I know what you mean by the fire dept being a family away from home, my dept chiefs are always there to help me out when I need it or just to make me smile if Im having a shit day.

I see that alot of people (other than just this group) say that about the peolpe on their dept. Well the funny thing is that My husband is on and his brother is a captin and his nephew is on too. I is deff. a family affaire.  We have cook outs when each other is working and are always kidding around.    We had a call and I said I didnt know what St in was on and latter on I went to my brother in law which is a cap. I asked where was the bath room and he drew mw a map with a crayon.    I always get slack about not knowing rod names. But the thing is they ask me how to get places and the shortest way. I know how to get places I just may not know the rd name .... LOL

Well In the departments I have been in and all have been like a family. One thing that stands out in all the Depts. is when you do your water shudle someone always ends up in the water tank. and It is usuglly the new guy.

Thanks for the invite, Sean.  I can't tell any stories about fire houses or BBQs but I can tell stories about bears and moose.  I can even tell you about publishing my book now.  I take requests.  lol

I think the brotherhood is the only way that it can really work. Would we really be able to do the things we do if we didn't know that our backup guy loved us like a brother, and TRULY had our back? And if, God forbid, one of us goes down, we're there for the families and friends. If all my guys love me as much as I love them, and I know they do, we'll all be OK. Thanks for bringing it to mind WEFD10, I think I take it for granted sometimes. Sure, we jerk each other's chain ALOT, that's half the fun of it, but when the chips are down, who can we trust more than a brother or sister firefighter.

we kid a lot at our station.  We are with each other 24 hrs naturally laughs occur at anothers expensesome of the most memerableones are

freezing someones hat, work boots, jacket or pants in the deep freeze.

lobbing rolls of toilet paper into one bunk in the middle of the night (good for snorers)

placeing a FOR SALE SIGN on their truck with a crazy low price and parking it in front of station

wait until they perch on the throne then call dispatch for radio test

throw fire crackers in dorm any time

live animals anywhere any time is a riot

4 spoons of flour scattered in bed sheets will make someone in blue uniform look like a cow bird

1 five gallon bucket of water will wet a LOT of things

we do all this stuff because of the horrible things we see and these things bring us closer together as brothers if we are not laughing we are cying if not living dying

Sometimes you eat the bear sometimes the bear eats you

Haha mine sounds like heaven too, of course we arn't there 24hrs because it's volunteer, but we will spend about 3 hours after a call just hanging around.  We like to play pranks, but mostly we just mess with each other.  When I went to the Connecticut Fire Academy Cadet Firefighting program we would mess around all the time with eachother.
