I have joined a search and rescue team in my local jurisdiction.  Is anyone else involved in this type of volunteer work?

Unfortunately we do not have a search and rescue in my area. I would love to do something like that though!

Our sherriff's department offers it here every couple of years.  I haven't been able to take it because I have been pregnant every time they have offered it--like 6 months along.  Hard to crawl in the woods with an appendage like that!   I would love to do it though,  and I will when it comes up again!

I have been on the dive team 10 + years and I am also a ground pounder and drive the county vehicles to all searches, swat issues, shootings etc and also out with the deputies during the summer for boat patrol. We have 10 SAR teams within our group. We have  been the Sheriff's Dept, Dept of Emergency Mgmt Spokane City/County SAR Volunteers. Recently changed to Spokane County Sheriff's Dept SAR Volunteers. Each team has it's own set of standards, state requirements. Anyone can join a team at any time and start training to get up to response status. Anyone wanting more information, feel free to contact me. I have help other teams get started in their areas. There are plenty of us willing to help.

My fire dept has a SAR team. It's pretty awsome because we get to train and do mock searches. We have actually done 2 SAR since we've had the program. We are an urban and wilderness SAR team. We have equiptment such as boats and ATVs to help us and we can call in air support if needed. Every member gets a backpac full of life saving equiptment and helmets and other rescue equiptment. It is very organized. We do have alot of trails and woodland areas, and we do have a nature/ animal wildlife refuge that alot of people get lost on trails. We also do have a large lake in our area.

In our County, the Sherriffs Department has their people assigned to this task.  We as EMTs sometimes help out.
