| Posted 3 months ago When i was in the explorers at my department we always had training the same day and got to do the same stuff as all the actual firefighters. (Except drive the apperatus of course.) For the most part just get them as involved as possible to keep them interested in joining the fire service after they are old enough to. Keep it fun for them also I know that is what made me want to join after i was old enough to i love my job but its easier to love something that your having fun with also. I hope this helps you out.

I've been doing this for about 2 yrs. Our training for FD is every Wed evening, the juniors are directly involved in this training with the seasoned firefighters. For the junior FF's we have 1 night a month, 2nd Mon of the month devoted to juniors only. I try to gear it around items they can do on the fire scene. We teach them T.A.L.L. toys air lights and ladders. We give them MVA challenges, What tools we might need and? We also play little mind games with them and make them work together as a team. Our juniors have their own monthly meetings, their own accounts, and fund raisers. this is just for them, it starts to teach them early on about the workings of the Fire Department and the business side of it |

I was a Explorer leader and we did just that. and by being a explorer they could apply for a position on the dept. at 18 instead of waiting to turn 21. it works out nice. FTM-PTB-RFH-EGH

| Posted 2 months ago Myself and one other firefighter are in charge of training our juniors. I try to include them in all dept. training, as well as creating basic drills just for them. One thing I make a habit of doing is making my juniors show new probies how to do basic fire operations such as, dressing a hydrant, checking an air pack ect.. This builds their confidence as well as showing me what I'm teaching them is sinking in. Hope this helps |
