This is the hard work and lack of public support that Public Safety Gets in Utah!

As a security guard, night manager at three of the largest nicest hotels in downtown Salt Lake City,I will just say this:

1) These employees deal with a huge volume of calls for transients and fights, alcohol, drug related issues in the downtown area at all hours of the day and night. I know this because these same calls kept me busy on my shifts.

2) The response to the area fine hotels is excellent due to the current placement and staffing at the local fire stations.

3) The increase in the overall population in both Salt Lake City a major hub for tourism and business, as well as the influx of people for Conference Weekend and other regional events means that adequate staffing is always needed even if it may appear to some to be a slow time.

4)I have personally worked for the City of Salt Lake as a volunteer Internship while at Westminster College in 2006. What I saw was a need for the City to analyze the lighting, the outdated electrica usage, the amount spent on landscaping with water and lawn, and the lights that are always on but not on timers. The second major area of cost savings should be in the use of an entire not partial fleet of fuel efficent vehicles.

5) Mayor Becker, How many interns are you using? The Colleges will provide them for free to help out in many departments and push all the paper around. This allows the talented staff members to do their jobs and more efficently.
