The wonderful world of trying to get on a paid department

Posted 3 months ago Hello Everyone, My name is Madalyn and I am from South Kingstown Rhode Island. Here in South Kingstown were are a town of all Vol. Fire Departments. For the past three years I have devoted my love to a Fire Fighter, and for the past three years we have been trying to get onto a paid department. He has applied to all the openings that are offered in Rhode Island but one of them stuck. He has passed the exam and he has been to four interviews with this paticular department...only to be let down in the end. We both think that it might have somthing to do with his lack in EMT experiance? He is now on an ambulance company and hes been with them for the past 4 months. Its been a year since this whole process with the department had started. Now at this time his physical agility test is up and that costs $100 dollars a year and his national certification has run up for is EMT certification. He has been on the Vol. Fire Department for the past 5 years and is currently a Lt. I guess my questions are is what is the best way to go about getting onto a paid department? is it all with patience? good things come to those who wait? What are some options about getting re-certification and taking the physical agility test with out going broke? Its hard now because these days hes starting to doubt if this really is his dream or is it the way to go to support a family. We are young both in our early 20's is it not a good age to be looking to get onto a paid department? Is he too young? is it the state that we live in too hard to get onto a paid department? There are just so many questions that I guess there might not be answars for. If you have any imput on this please feel free to e-mail me through here or at mpopenshaw@gmail.com |
