| Posted 3 months ago I would like to believe you are not having this much trouble. I don't know much but this is what I know frome experience. First, if we all had to be FFI just to apply, there would be no firefighters. Second, firefighter jobs in the U.S. are highly coveted, thus an open position is more often than not, very competitive. I don't understand your comment on re-training. Fire burns the same way all over the world. Training on various technique I do understand. Different departments = different strategies. I am sure you would have to prove you are compliant with Standards and Training. I am sure it's no different in the U.K. Look for the National Fire Academy(google, yahoo, etc) and see if they can offer more and better info than what you were given. Good luck and don't give up. MKB How do we live? Day by day sir. Day by day. |

| Posted 3 months ago i actually think it all depends on your visa and status with the US. meaning, you'd have to be able to stay/live here longer than the three month Visa will allow. because there are many US people qualified for FF jobs it's not a job you'd be able to just fill due to your experience (like a doctor, sports player (like Beckam), models, international job transfer, etc. so, i don't think it's the job. i'm sure you're qualified ... it's your status that i believe would hold you back. many applications (here) nowadays have a question "are you a US citizen or qualified to legally work in the states" you may want to check out the ICE website: http://www.ice.gov/ i found all this info out when my exhubby (from australia) was on his way here and when he was here. once we got divorced it was all down hill for him .... i hope that helps a bit. good luck two dawwwllers |

| Posted 3 months ago If I were you I would contact the Miami-Dade Fire Department human resources department. You could start with an email campaign to the various fire departments you want to be on. Most of the larger city fire departments have academies that you would need to attend despite any prior training. This way they can train you the way they want you trained. I know that the City of Grand Rapids Michigan will be hiring about a dozen full time fire fighters sometime within the next year, and host their own academy. A lot of departments in the US are Volunteer. Some are paid on call, some are paid an annual stipend, and some are not paid at all.
