Posted 6 months ago My fire dept was just formed about 2 months ago, we went from a city dept to a county dept. When we switched none of the old vol. came to the our dept. So now we have about 3 guys with recent fire experience (me being one of them) and were kinda forced into being training officers. Our calls are bout 90% brush/grass fires, 5% structure fires and 5% rescue. We are all vol. and have guys that are still fighting fires the way they did in the 1980's. We have gone through all the operations of the fire trucks and gone through simple wild land fire techniques (like attack from the black). We need some more ideas for wild land trainings. any ideas? |

| Posted 5 months ago Contact your local forestry rangers. We did that and they sponsored training for us. We learned how to cut a fire line with just hand-tools. It was exhausting but well worth the effort. They are excellent teachers of geography(map reading, weather patterns, etc) And are a great resource. Hope this helps. MKB |
