Posted 2 months ago I want to know some of your most exciting calls.... It's not what you don't know. It's what you are unwilling to learn.... |

| Posted 2 months ago Hmmmm... maybe responding to a errr....ummm... strip joint (gentleman's club, *i**ie bar...) on fire when I was with SNCFD back in the early '90s. Fire started in the sign out front, spread into attic. First in department arrives with light smoke/ no fire showing and goes inside to investigate. Within just a few minutes, it flashes in the attic and blows out the hanging ceiling. Two firefighters went to the hospital with burns. That and there were half-naked women running around the parking lot. ;-) |

| Posted 2 months ago That would be exciting to go to a gentlemen's club for a fire call. Do not have one of those around me. I do not have any exciting calls. We should have discussed the boring ones. I am sure we have all had them. |

| Posted 2 months ago I want tvfd502's best run I'm sure it was "SMOKIN HOT" in there. Ningpo I'm sure you have a story to tell. It might be exciting even if you think it's boring. Almost all calles have there own excitment but the one that stands out for me is two downtown buildings that caught fire when it was 62 below zero. Everything was extra difficult on that one. I thought the coolest thing was seing the water freeze as it ran out of the building. If you blinked too long your eyes would freeze shut not to mention the work of moving because your turnouts were frozen to whatever you touched. Those type of challenges are what makes "firefighters". my favorite part was seeing a cop fall on his a$% while trying to do a firefighters job... It's not what you don't know. It's what you are unwilling to learn.... |

| Posted 2 months ago Firetec, I really do not have exciting to talk about. I have some weird calls I guess or at least tiresome ones. There was one fire back in January this year that was a mutual aid call to a nearby town for a barn fire. I guess it was fully engulfed and there was animals trapped, cows to be exact. When we got on scene, part of the building collasped so it made it tough to get the cows out. We managed to help save all the cows but one that was trapped underneath a burning part of the roof. Nothing is worse then a cow screaming in pain. It was sad but there was nothing we could do to get to it. Then of course, you get the nasty smell afterwards and the jokes. I guess people were asking how we wanted our beef cooked. I guess through the trauma, they just try to remain light hearted as we worked the fire. Nothing like trying to pull tin roofing out of the way to get to the fire. It was a long day and only four members from our department was there. I do not think it was all that exciting. I guess I look at the fact that it was a job to do. We did it and I feel proud to have been there that day. Any more on mutual aid call we are asked to set up a fill site for mutual aid calls. That is boring but a very integral part of the job. |

| Posted 2 months ago You are right sometimes people just joke to cope.. I'm a big believer in there is nojob on or around the fireground that is unimportant.. It's not what you don't know. It's what you are unwilling to learn.... |

| Posted 2 months ago every call for me is exciting. even those pesky alarm systems. i still feel like a little kid inside when the pager trips and the station siren sounds. i remember when i was a kid, i used to live a block away from the firehouse i used to belong to. my friend and i would ride our bikes and be the first ones there to watch the trucks go racing out. while the bike days are over...lol, i am now the one who gets to ride the seat alot of times and play with those sirens. it's tradition in my family. i take great pride in being able to help those in need in times of crisis. it bothers me that some are out there for self promotion and political reasons. they forget what it's really about.
p.s.- greg, thanks for the invite |

| Posted 2 months ago This one time at band camp. just kidding. LMAO! every call for me is also exciting unless it is some bull shit stuff like i had today. i was covering for the LT as truck officer we got dispatched to an MVA we got there and there was no MVA just a dumb ass gravel haulin dump truck driver that forgot to secure his tail gate and tailgated 10 ton of # 2 rock up a stretch of road for about 4 miles. OHHH i was pissed. on top of it all it was only about 95,000 degres standing on hot black top in bunker pants and boots. i could have used my webbing in my right pants pocket to lynch that truck driver. Oh well, we take the good with the bad. RB |
