Department Differences

Posted 3 months ago It occurred to me today as I was speaking with my partner on shift that Fire Departments across the Country are as a whole similar but distinctly different. We began to debate what those differences may or may not be. I thought I would bring our discussion online and share our thought with the community in hope you might share yours back. I realize that each of our departments has unique un-comparable characteristics but to what bar may we measure ourselves to push for higher standards. How might we be able fairly compare our selves to larger and smaller community departments vs. major metropolitan agencies. We love MCFR and are loyal to it but only a few of our guys have ever worked for another dept. I myself had some experience in both Florida and Georgia so I am one of the few who is able to see the differences first hand. I just want to know what everyones thoughts might be on this... |

| Posted 3 months ago It seems to me the overall scope of a fire department is alike from city to city. The methods are different everywhere you go.the same problems seem to be encountered in large cities as in rural volunteer departments but the method of dealing with those problems seem to be what works for that area. In large cities they have several stations to handle their run load but smaller communities they rely on mutual aid which is basically the same as having several stations over a large area. It's not what you don't know. It's what you are unwilling to learn.... |
