Who Are We?
Posted 2 months ago Who Are We? We are carpenters, engineers, teachers and computer programmers. We are corporate managers, truck drivers and business owners. We are retired and active military, blue collar, white collar and religious collar. We have families and careers, celebrations and tragedies. We are single, married and divorced. We are parents, children and pet owners. We have lives that we risk, everyday, no questions asked, so that you can enjoy, experience, suffer and survive all that we do in the course of our collective lives. We leave the comfort of our beds, our homes, our families and our jobs to ensure that you have all of that to come home to. We do it without pay, without reward, without notice, oftentimes without thanks. We are everywhere, at anytime, ready and willing to give up all that we are to save all that you have. Who are we? We are the volunteer firefighters that stand ready, day or night, workday or holiday, putting our lives on the line; because if we didn’t, who would?

Posted 28 days ago We are the ones they complain about because we ask for funds, make them pull over with our red lights, BUT the ones that better get there fast if They need us. 49 my friend Stay safe and remember YOU are the most important one at a scene.

Posted 28 days ago here here. Well said, but even if we had to sell BBQ and spaghetti dinners for every dime, and never got another " Thank You ", we'd still do it, wouldn't we.

Posted 28 days ago I agree with that. I do this cause I feel good not for the thanks. Just sometimes wish the ones that complain about us driving the way we do for a call would realize that we might have to do it for them sometime. 49 my friend Stay safe and remember YOU are the most important one at a scene.

That is very true, and I was in no way implying that you're in for a thank you, but keep in mind that public perception goes a long way, and that we are still subject to the laws of the road even during a response. I recently had a complaint lodged against me over my response to a swimmer in distress call. A man on the beach thought I was going to fast, so, to him, I was. My chief explained to him that I had responded on the beach to hundreds of calls, and was very safe, but you will never convince him that I was being safe. At first I was pissed, and said, " I'll bet if it was HIS kid, I'd have been going too slow ". In any situation like that, there are three truths, yours, mine, and actual. Sorry to get off subject, just wanted firetiger to know where I was coming from. |

Posted 28 days ago AMEN, AMEN, AMEN. I havent been in the fire service as long as you guys, but I feel the same way. THey dont have to say thank you, but when they do, you just cant help but tell them how welcome they are. There's not a call I can't answer, no matter how little sleep I have had, or how hungry I am, I still feel concerned that if I dont go, it could mean death or injury for someone in need. Very, very good post. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
