I used to be a volunteer for a really small town and served that fire department for over 10 years. In my time there the one thing that really burned my ass was people coming to get training and then leaving about a year after they got on or as soon as the department paid for whatever training they wanted. I don't feel I did this to that department because I served several years. Does anyone else have a pet peeve that drives them crazy? maybe as a group we can share our problems and possibly even get some fixed...

It's not what you don't know. It's what you are unwilling to learn....

we have the same problem at my house. we have just become very selective on who we send to training that is not required by the state. we also extended our proationary period to 1 year, that cut out alot of that crap. if the ones that we are speacking of do not start being active in that time than we suspend thier membership.

other pet peeves, when we get calls, the only ones some of the volunteers show up to are the big ones, they ignore the tediouse, calls like alarm drops or lifting assistance for ems. that pisses me off. if you are going to be a firefighter, do it full out. not just when you think it is going to be exciting.  RB
