Posted 2 months ago What kind of guide lines do you set for new volunteers? Example: Do you have to live within so many miles of the fire station? Is any age acceptable? Past history with other deparments? Any info would help me. THANKS! Rodney Spires

Posted about 1 month ago At my department every member must live in district, show up to 10% of calls(we are a combination department so dont need volunteers to staff for calls), complete 48 hrs of training yearly, and show up to 2 social events. All new mebers must do a probie class with a fire tower in the first year. To become a member you must be 18.

Posted about 1 month ago check out your local dept.s SOGs "Hell, these are Marines. Men like them held Guadalcanal and took Iwo Jima. Bagdad ain't shit." "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem." United States Marine Corps

Posted about 1 month ago Minimum age -18, must live or work in town, or live within 1 mile of town limit (flexible), must pass a background check and a department paid physical. New members are strongly encouraged to take Fire I (and Fire II as well). We do have AOG's that require a minimum number of calls per quarter, 75% of drills (we have a tax abatement program and are cracking down on the 'pick and choose' people) and monthly meetings. We are in the process of streamlining the application process and new members are brought in to the companies to wait for the next Fire I class, this way they get to know company members, learn the apparatus, procedures and to ride on the engines. We are in the middle of re-structuring our department and cracking down on a lot of the loose ways that have been in practice.

Posted about 1 month ago On my Deparment the minumum qualifications are: 1. 18 years or older. 2. Must make all required trainings, but there are allowances for work, ect. 3. Must have transportation and have at least liability coverage. 4. Must have a clean criminal background check. 5. Must not have a suspended drivers license. Residency not required, but at least be local. Also there are many other things like showing up for special details, enrolling in FF 1 class, obtaining BLS (CPR), ect. Usually You are on probation for 6 - 12 months depending how fast you get your requireds done. Hope this helps!

Posted about 1 month ago in our dept., we follow pennsylvania state labor laws for juniors. min. age is 14. must take a fire 1 class w/in a year, and take a structural burn when you turn 18 to obtain ff1 nat'l proboard cert. we encourage rescue, haz-mat awareness and other classes as well. in order to be interior, you must have ff1 cert and be yearly co. certified in scba. must be 21 to drive any fire dept. apparatus. and it is recommended you take a pump 1 class. we are in the process of re-doing our sop's in further detail. we have different levels of membership. they are: active, active interior, active non-interior, photographer, social, fire police, and drivers. we also have a life member category as well. you must live w/in a 4 mile radius of the station. we are a small boro, but we cover parts of 3 other twp's as well. so living in our primary boro is not a requirement. for blue lights, you must meet pa. state law title 75. you must pass a pa. state criminal background check. this costs 10 dollars and after you are voted in, the co. reimburses you. if you were a member in another dept., we will contact your previous dept(s) and get feedback on your membership with them. we actually have a membership committee that handles all new appicants and does the invetigating. after your investigation is complete, you are voted on by the co. while NOT present. you are notified of your membership status after the voting is complete by telephone.
