Re-licensure

Posted 4 months ago As I am currently without a parent EMS system (a lowly independent medic)... I was wondering if anyone on here had more information as how I go about renewing my medic license independently? I tried contacting my state (Illinois DOT) but all I found was a form to fill out. Do my CPR/ACLS/PALS cards themselves count as a certain number of hours or do I have to find/get proof from where I took the classes as to how many credits I was awarded through the instructor? Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

Posted 4 months ago wow I went on the DOH EMS site and your right lots of info just not what I was looking for. I would suggest calling your local fire dept and ask to speak to the training officer and ask if they have a list of annual requirements to keep your status current. You can also call the state or county EMS coordinator and get the info. I know before I joined the fire dept I didn't have a sponsor for 3 years. I called a few fire depts and did ems rainings with them and they signed off my otep requirements. Our local depts are really good about helping out. Hope this info helps you at least a little. Good luck Shelly

Posted 3 months ago Check online for training programs like emsed.com, health.net, or something like that. Google search "ems continuing education". There may be a "paramedic refresher" nearby also. Yes, ACLS, CPR, PEPP, PALS, PHTLS, and ITLS all have certain credits assigned them. I"m pretty sure there is a national standard as to how many credits apply, but your state should have a list of all CE subjects and how many credits they are worth. Hope this helps.

Posted 3 months ago Another place to get credits are EMS Expos. There are a couple of big national ones, and each state may offer one. I know we have one here in Michigan every year. Check the Jems website. They sponsor the EMS Today EMS Expo every year. www.jems.com
