After being recently deployed to help with EMS during hurricane dolly in south texas i had the chance to work closely with texas task force 1 and lone star task force... i have always been interested in technical rescue but this really brought it to the front burner for me... i have looked at the courses and they are ridiculously expensive... for those of you who have your rescue certs how did you get them... did you department pay for them and if not how was it funded?

Our county instructors get certified to teach outreach classes given by the Fire Academy in NY.  We can take them in our fire houses here in the county and they are free to us.  Its generally 2 nights a week 4 hours a night for how ever long the course is and we attain certification upon passing the exam.  I have a Rescue Technician Basic Class coming up in the fall.
