We had a really good demo put on by Pike power company . They brought in a truck with powerlines . transformers and other things to demonstrate the dangers and what not to do. We learned alot.  Other Fire departments, town employees and DoT was also invited. We had a meal together than watch the safety demo which took about 30 min.  With up coming storms and other related issues; Has your department had such a class and why don't you ?

Yes, and was a neat demo.  We had the adult version although they have a model set up for demos to school children.

You probably saw the same demo we did. Some things I knew and a few I didn't. I took pics and will post them later. They mentioned that they were coming out with a dvd of the demo.   If you read the post First mistakes or lesson learned there was at least two cases of near electrocution and Chase1 has a picture of a  ladder truck on fire from powerline contact.

I personally never thought of that, but it is a really good idea.  I will have to suggest that to our department.

Its a good thing to have a demo but better when you have some of the electric guys on the fire department though. Our chief is a good example of that. He brought the same things and gave the spill on the safety topics and what we can and cannot do but he said that he will be on any scene of a electric problem.

Contact your local electric company, ours here in the Dayton area has a traveling "show" that they use for fire departments.  Showes everything from lines to transformers, it is a very good show that is done by LINEMAN, not admin people.

We try to bring in the local power company about every 2 to 3 years. They have a great program that they put on for us. We allways invite souronding depts. to come. The program has lots of hands on stuff for us to see and touch, and the instructors are really good. Any dept. that hasn't had one of theese should contact there local power company and inquire about one.

We just had this demo in the spring. It was very informative.

We had this training last year.  I think a lot of us that it was going to be a waste of time, but it turned out to be every eye opening.  Especially when they cooked a hotdog on the power line.

I'ts not our mistakes that define us...it's what we do afterwards.
