As a 911 dispatcher in northern ny, we use the positron system for CAD, but we our redoing our whole system, which is only a couple years old. We are switching to the VIPER system, look into that one. Our system now we always have problems with

i dont really know anything about the different cad systems but i can tell you make sure it works and make sure you know how to use it....our county got cad awhile back and relly i dont think it helps that much... they still dispatch wrong departments into wrong areas, i dunno how many times i have had to call by phone and let them know that the call was in our area not the other departments..along with that the departments had to spend countless hours setting up our box alarms and they still dont do that right....our chief was supposed to go and talk to the county whether he did or there still not doing anything about it

You might want to check out a product called xwaveCAD. Its a tri service system used in Police, Fire and/or EMS domains. Here is their web site: http://www.xwave.com/key_industries/industry.aspx?IdKey=3&IdPage=41

Isn't VIPER a product of POSITRON?

You are going to get different opinions on different CAD systems from different people, some similar and some differing.  I highly suggest you put together a proposal detailing exacty what you need the CAD system to do and send it out for bid.  This way you can see costs and if the CAD will do what expect it to do.  Find out if they will program and configure the system or if your agency will have to do the back door work.  Chosing a CAD system is an extensive project requiring alot of detail and research.  Take your time.
