| Posted 2 months ago im 19 years old 6'2 and 200 lbs i started excercising about 3 months ago. I weighed 220 when i decided i should excercise again, i just started running every other day and it has worked out very well so far. The only bad thing is i have shin splints and i have tendonitis in one of my knees which can suck some times but its worth it. I also started lifting weights and when i started i could do a max of 25 pushups and now i can do 55-60 max and sets of 40 after working out for a while. If you start to excercise and make yourself do it for a month or so you will have the motivation to do it. If you wanna get in shape quick i would suggest do what i did, lift weights one day and do it for about an hour ( it will be tough but it gets a lot better) the next day go run till you feel you cant run any more then walk till ur ok then run again and keep doing this till you feel u cant run at all any more. When i started running i could only run for about 30 seconds before i felt sick and tired, now i can run 1.5 miles no stoping. Its really amazing how much better you feel when you excercise regularly not only will your self esteem go up but its a great stress reliever. Good luck, if i can do this you guys can, just remember no pain no gain and it takes time for this to work.
P.S. Before u run make sure u strech/warm up for about 5 minutes. |

| Posted 2 months ago I'm there with ya as far as not being able to get the ones that need it the most to get off the couch and get moving. My 15 year old son's cholesterol is 194 and my dear husbands blood work is as follows; cholesterol 272 (range is 0-200), Ldl 101 (range 0-99), Hdl 24 (range 40-60), Triglyceride 668 (range 0-250), Vldl 134 (range 5-40). When the nurse opened his chart up to tell us the results she ended the conversaton by handing us brochures on sings go look for heart attach and stroke and when you call an ambulance... I've been trying for a couple of years now to get them to the gym with me (not that I am in the best shape of my life). I had a hard time moving for a bit, but since PT I have been trying to get them motivated and not being successful. I'mm worried and need suggestions as to how to get the two of them motivated. Sam is in football now, but Steve just works and works and works and when he get home he doesn't feel like exercise. The only exercise he gets is on fire calls and once in a while I can drag him to the gym. (luvmyff99) Mrs Tonia Jacob |

| Posted 2 months ago 5'10" and down to 235 or so from 282. I do at least 50 pushups and situps per day plus quit drinking soda, except diet, quit putting sugar and creamer in my coffee and have cut candy out of my diet entirely. It has taken about 5 months to lose 47 pounds. I try to eat more whole grain and less sugar.... Oh yeah, walk, run, walk walk walk walk. |

| Posted 2 months ago Drink water instead of all the other stuff,, eat more oatmeal, find a set of bleachers or stairs get a backpack that will support 10-50 pounds, start off with the least amount of weight and work up, then take off walking the bleachers or steps at a "SAFE" pace. I also hit the gym on shift and do a program on the elipitical.
I challanged some of the guys here in the station to fully bunker out, and climb the steps here in the station 24 up 24 down for 45min. to an hour. Nowone will do it, but it keeps ya in shape. |

i would love to have a set of stairs to use...but unfortunately about the only set of steps are inside buisnesses....and we have very very very few houses that are more that 1 story in our area... when i get enough guys involved in getting in shape....i'll see about using the bleachers to the Football field at the local high school... but that's about the only option we have in our area for "steps" anyways... This guy Snuffles basically knows what he is talking about... im 6'0 tall and weigh 165 lbs. To some you may call me skinny but im really not all that skinny, im just toned. Snuffles definately has the right idea. I played football in high school so it definately kept me in good shape. Now that i graduated, i got a membership to this little gym called snap fitness that doesnt have much guest traffic as far as waiting to use a machine or anything like that, and I also go to a local place that has paths to run on. Personally, I dont follow the whole eating healthy thing...I really dont think it affects you that much as long as you exercise and work it off...I do HOWEVER think that drinking soda will greatly affect your weight. I stopped drinking pop and immediately started to see that working out became easier...I reccomend drinkin this sports drink called Powerade Zero, its a zero calorie sports drink that I think has a great taste...I prefer strawberry lol but yeah..like snuffles said, if you lift, run, and do some varied kinds of situps here and there you will begin to lose weight and be in better shape...oh and believe me...once you start to workout on a regular basis you begin to feel better about yourself and will soon feel like you have more energy than ever...give it a shot guys it is worth the time and money to be in good shape. |

| Posted 2 months ago I would love to do situps, but my Dr does not allow me to do them, or to Run. I miss running and doign sit-ups :( I power walk and love it when Steve can't keep up hehehe or has to jog to keep up. Is there an alternate exercise that could/would work those same muscles? My tummy and hips seem to be my most troubles areas as far as the unwanted weight gain. Dr said that I can do anything else that does not "Hurt" as far as exercise and my tummy and back are concerned. I have not done a sit-up since I was 14...that is...a very long time ago. | Posted 2 months ago You can do quite a few core exercises with a yoga ball as well. To me they produce a better result that sitting on the floor and doing sit ups. You can also do leg squats with one as well and it does offer some back support as well. I would say definitely cut out as much sugar as you can out of your diet. I quit drinking soda, juice and I limit my coffee intake to 1 cup a day. You will notice a difference just by doing things like that. |

| Posted about 1 month ago OK, folks, I'll be 45 next month and I weigh 190 at the moment. I'm 5'6". I carry all my weight in my upper body and I HATE it. I have my mother's body. I just received my first shipment of Nutrisystem. I am going to dedicate myself to that for a month. Also, I am taking a PE class at college that is kicking my ass and that's awesome. I am taking classes for my paramedic degree anyway, so I figured a class that "forced" me to work out (I paid for it and I'm on campus anyway) would work, and it seems to be. My problem is that in EMS (I work 24 on, 48 off) we seem to eat the wrong things at the wrong time. I'm hoping Nutrisystem will fix that. And the exercise will help me deal with the stress. Plus, being 45 and in a line of work that trashes my back and knees every day (I'm sure you all know about that, EMS or not). Wish me luck..and good luck to all of you! |

| Posted about 1 month ago Good Luck. I have not been working out. I can't seem to stay healthy enough to get in more than a week at a time. I am trying to get better. Steve took me into the ER on Sunday morning and I am still not out of the sick woods yet. I was having an asthma attack, but by the time they got me inprocessed and the Dr got to me the asthma attack had calmed down and all he could find was sinus infection, laryngitis, and headed into bronchitis. Yesterday I was upright for about 14 hours, the most I've been out of bed in about a week. LOL Hope the rest of your week and weekend are perfect for you. Be Safe. (luvmyff99) Mrs Tonia Jacob |
