Posted 2 months ago Yep...young guy right here...18 years old. I do have some questions on the training and tactics though. I'm not exactly the biggest, strongest, fastest, or even the most agile guy. I'm 6'0 tall and 165 lbs...im not necessarily skinny so much as I am toned because I do workout almost every day and played football in high school...so yeah...I am kind of unsure on if I'd be able to keep up with some of these big buff dudes that can breeze through these physical tests you have to take. I do have alot of heart and im very competitive so that can generally keep me close in...but idk...still got the butterflies on being unsure on if I can keep up with the competition because that is essentially what they are...
any advice from the vets on anything that can give me some advantages over the competition as far as gettin more agile and the proper muscles that I need to be stronger??? |

| Posted 2 months ago dont sweat it you'll do just fine! its not about how strong you are or how fast you are its all about techqiue. a steady pace will get you alot farther than sprinting into it. you have heart and the drive so youll do fine |

| Posted 2 months ago thanks guys...I really do hope I do well once I get done taking all the classes and actually get tested. I do know its really rough gettin into firefighting in northeast Ohio though, so im definately gonna have my hands full lol |

| Posted 2 months ago JW...... Get with Stew Smith on this site and he will advise one of his books. They are sometimes downloadable. It seems you are in good shape, but need road work for some good strength of staying in there a long time. Good Luck. Come help out in the Fitness and Nurtition Awareness group. It will help us all. | Posted about 1 month ago Flexiblity is a huge perk in this line of work. I reccomend stretching every day. Flexiibility will make you run faster, move longer and lift more. You will be amazed how tight and stiff your tendons and ligaments become. Im speaking from experience here. I am 6'00 and 245lbs and do a seated push of 25", and a vertical leap of 28". One year ago I couldnt do an 18" seated push without thinking I was going to be broke in half, I could only do a 21" vertical. I had no idea that my body had made such a memory in the few years i had been out of the Army. Last year I became a reserve corrections officer for our local sheriffs dept and while I was in class was when I was made aware of this. My pt instructor told me to do basic stretches and Id see pretty outstanding results. I gave it a chance and now im a beliver. Stretch, Stretch, Stretch. |
