Posted 2 months ago my dept just did a controlled burn on a two story house. we lit it 4 different times, letting different teams come in and put it out. after all the training was done we started a small fire in the kitchen and took everyone inside to watch the behavior of the fire. we kept backing out as the fire got bigger and spread to other rooms. when it started spreading rapidly we egressed and fell back to protect exposures. it was by far the best training i have ever had. i recommend every dept to something similar. i have pics of the burn on my profile if anyone is interested. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Standard training in GA dictates that you must have live fire training before you are allowed to fight fire. Same standard holds for each level of certs(NPQ's) I just read that and it sounds like I am putting you down, I apologize. I fully agree with you and I am not putting you down. It is an excellent tool for anyone wanting to be involved in fire suppression. Get them to send you to the flashover simulator, it ROCKS! Be prepared, it is hot and hostile. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Live fire training is a neccesity to gain safe experience. The way you described your experience sounds like it was ran very proficient and not the "macho/senceless" way that we all see to often. I love a good burn as much as the next guy but it really irritates me when the under educated people out there try and damage gear to show how tough they are. There is absolutly no reason to be burning helmets or staying in until you almost pass out. People like that just embarace the fire fighter brotherhood. Im glad you were able to attend a truly educational training session and not a testosterone fest. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Glad you were able to learn from being in front of a real fire. One of our local districts has a burn trailer and in there your able to experience live fire and they are able to simulate a rollover, wow it gets hot but can be done safely to show the dangers you can face in a real fire. This type of training can give you a real respect for fire and the danger that comes with it. I agree with Ed no need to show off and push the limits at anytime during training and get hurt. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I love live fire training. I think it is the best way to learn. We usually start and but the fire out several times als. I like the Idea of starting it and slowly moving out watching it burn. Never done that. |

Again I need to stress. Standards tell, you must have safety officers at all 4 points of the structure. Safety and control officers within when personnel are in. Remember there is a Asst. Chief in upstate NY serving prison time for killing 2 guys during a training burn. The Chief officers ARE responsible and can and will most likely be held to account for their actions.
That said. I as a Chief , not too crazy about live burns as you have described Omnis Cedo Domus |
