Where is your antenna? What type of antenna are you running? Is your scanner setup for the "narrow band" and is it a "trunking" unit? What about buildings (3-stories) near your location?

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

I agree with the above posters. A little more information would be helpful.

There are a few things that you will want to think about when trying to figure out what will improve reception. What seems to be the problem? Is the signal weak? Is it too strong and you are getting interference? Any more information that you can give would help us give you a suggestion on what you can try.

its a hand held radio shack pro 79, i had it in my vehicle at one tim and had a wire that would extend the antenna to hold on to the window so as of right now i have it by the front of my trailer and then drilled a whole in the wall so that i could have the antenna outside my trailer. as for buildings around there really isnt much i live on secondary road with very few neighbors

the problem is that it doesnt seem that it is picking up, i can pick our control center up on low band and sometimes on high band but i cannot usually hear our station on either, and im only like 3 blocks away

some one told me that if i wrap wire around the antenna and then wrapped that around the roof that it could possible pick up better

I have a bearcat bc350a for home and car I use a k40 cb antenna and pick up alot more then when I had a reg. scanner one. I use it in my truck and house. In my truck I have it wired direct to batteries same as a cb you get less interfence that way

The antenna that you may want to think about getting would be a discone antenna. This antenna works very well and it would probably go a long way toward improving the reception for just about anything you may try to listen to. The only thing about this antenna is that you'll want to climb up and make sure the radials are tight about twice a year. Otherwise with the weather they tend to unscrew from the base and eventually fall out.
