A lady had a house out on the country side that was being work on by a plumber in the upper story. He had work on soldering the pipes right before noon time and had left after his work was done. later that afternoon we receive a call for a reported structure fire at this very same address. On scene we found a working fire in the upper level.  We made our way to the roof top to ventilate. as I proceeded to sound the roof with an axe. The roof was good to go as we made our way up the peak of the roof and started to make our cut with a chain saw. little did we know that this fire had been burning more than just 30 min. that the roof started give way. We made attempt to bail off the roof, when the roof started to give way. Myself and another firefighter had damn near fell through the roof. At the moment, I had to change my way of thinking about how to make my job more safer when doing roof ventilation. After the fire was knock down. We had found out that the lady was a Realtor and the house was on the market and had NO insurances in the structure. But how ever did put insurances on it while we were putting the fire out, nice try to pull a fast one....

A lot more dramatic then the one that changed my thinking the most. Mine was my first fire as the acting officer.

Hard charging, fire or firefight.

mine would have to be soon after i took overr as an officer. We have a kinda small department so usually our chief is always there.  but we got called out to a fire at the one industrial site we have, and i work there so i know whats there and all. but about 5 minutes into the scene the chief had to leaver and left me in charge. nothing bad happend or anything but it js changes how ya look at things when you have four fire depts and a whole lotta stuff that can go boom in one area for your first structure fire command as an officer
