What are some of your favorite rescue tools? Which are the most effective?

I was raised with the heavy a$$ Hurst tool. It worked great. We currently use a TNT tool with cutters and ram. I think the blades are a little short, and they are just blades. You can't pinch a fender or purchase point without cutting into it. Personally I think the compressor is a little under powered. I have maxed it out before. We have been looking at the ResQjack. It seems to be very usable and variable in setup and terrain use. One of our guys had some experience with it in a class and liked it. I hope to push getting one soon.

We always used Hurst tools exclusively until we got a grant and ended up with a Holmatro set. Thankfully, the Holmatro set went onto my rescue truck (because no one else wanted to give up their Hurst tools). I have been pleased at the ease of use and the lighter weight every time we have used them.

My latest favorite new tool is the Tele-strut system. They are wonderful. I was a bit skeptical at first. After using them ONCE, I was sold. Simple to use.

We have the Amkus system. Seperate spreaders and cutters, as well as different sized rams. We tested against some other stuff, and Amkus won our opinion hands down. I dont recall any time that we ran out of power, but I'm sure it is possible.

We currently have seperate spreaders/shears. Honestly I can't tell you what brand they are...But I know we are fixin to get some of the AMKUS tools.

They have this awesome cutter with a rotating head..love the fact that we could be cutting into an A beam or B beam and then just rotate the machine instead of having my hands pinched between the tool and the beam.

NO matter how hard I try that always happens to me.

They are also fixin to get the new spreaders with this cool head on them that serves as a spreader and a squeeze. You can also pop the tips off and use the straight points.

Can't wait!!

OH yeah.. hands down I still love my Haligan bar!! Even though it's technically a FIRE tool.. I love it in Auto Ex. I've busted windows/windshields with it... pried entry points for my spreaders etc with it. ;-)

At home we use Hurst tools, we have a set of cutter, a set of large spreaders, and a combi tool, and two sets of rams. They're all preconnected with the power source in the Rescue. The only downfall to not having small movable generators is if we have to go deep into the woods for some odd reason. We also use the ResQJacks and I absolutely love them, they're so easy to use and set up and they really get the job done.

At college we use Holmatro, we have a combi tool, a cutter, and a medium sized spreader, and two sets of rams. I've found that the Holmatro's, atleast the ones we have, don't seem to make it through as much as the Hurst, it may be because the power source is so much smaller. We use the JunkYard Dogs struts, in my opinion they're junk, you have to take them apart to adjust them and it takes up too much time if you ask me.

at my department and our neighboring department to the north we use the american genesis tools...I love these tools..lightweight and powerful fast opening and closing times. Ive seen other brands of tools snap or break on simple operations.  When other suppliers told us that there products would not cut thru a nader pin we went ahead and did it. they also have some of the mostt power out their...If your lookin into new tools check em out www.genesisrescue.com .

On our rescue we have hurst cutters and spreader, and 3 different size rams. We just recently added th 36" hurst ram. On our tower truck (2nd due to mva's) We have a portable hurst pump with the old heavy spreaders and a set of cutters. We also keep a corded and a cordless sawzall on each of theese trucks, and of course all of your hand tools. We recently did an extrication drill with hand tools VS hydraulic tools. My team had a sawzall set of irons and a sledge. We finished removing the roof and popping the doors not to far behind the hydraulic tools. Fun drill.
