I have been looking for a foam system to add to one of our trucks. Has anyone had any experience with this POK foam stick system.

Nope. They seem pretty cheesy. Reminds me of those fertilizer cartridges you put in a sprinkler thing, or in the ground. Never used one though. Would seem like if you didn't finish one off, you would have to toss it and put a new one in, as it wouldn't keep once it got wet.

The info I got says when finished with it, if it still has some stick left to put it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. They say the stick is reusable.

from what they told me at our fire school, you can reuse them once they are opened... i guess they are supposed to last longer then bucket foam... but thats what the salesmen told us. they also offered to come to the station and demonstrate the system for us...

Oh cool. Might be worth checking out then. Hopefully cheaper than adding a foam unit. I think they have a limit to GPM though.

ya i think so too, but at the same time you can carry a bunch of these sticks, unlike bucket foam where you are limited to how big your foam tank is and how much room you have in your comparments to carry 5 gallon buckets...

We have one pox gun on each engine. We are carrying the green emulsifier sticks and the pink foam sticks. The sticks are reusable we just seal the unused portion in a ziplock and place back on the engine. So far we have only used them on car and dumpster fires with success and cleaning up fluids down as this is what the emulsifier sticks are for, the foam sticks we are using do not make a fluffy blanket but more of a suds. The sales rep said we do not have the high ex cartridges. The few times we have used them they have worked well, but we do not have that much experience with foam to note a real difference. I seem to think that one stick goes a long way and the nozzle with the tube is a little awckward. One bennifit the sales rep pushed is that the stick will work at any nozzle or pump pressure producing effective product.

The major problem I see with the POK system is the low GPM flow. If something happens you don't have enough flow to fall back on like you would with an eductor system.

I know that it is cheaper to buy the sticks but our fire dept. is looking at going to this. I am looking for some good feed back on this or bad feed back. Does anyone know the limitasions of this? All i know is what I have read about this.

We recently used these on our dept and The nozzel that hold the sticks is not that great. When we install the foam stick we didn't get the effectiveness as a regular nozzle. It was very messy. Most of the foam ended up on us then on the fire needless to say. Maybe we weren't using them correctly. I didn't like it personally. We keep a box of them on the truck but we have never used them in a real situation, only training purposes.

Here is a link to a PDF file I found on POK's website, it has great info and pricing for the Foam Stick Nozzles and accessories as well as directions to use.  Seems real simple and logical for small depts with no budget to get a quick foam application on the rare fires that foam is needed.  Great concept, but I have not ever even heard of it until now!!!  I need to see it in action and use it myself to make a real determination though.
