Posted 3 months ago On my paid department we have 3 crews and 3 stations that have roughly the same amount of equipment at each station. Each month the stations rotate and each crew is assigned a new station. For example truck checks on a brush truck intail: a full inventory, starting chain saws, float pumps, and the main diesel pump. Checking couplings, foam levels, fuel tank levels, drip torches, and ensuring that all hoses are clean and accounted for. In the cab: make sure that the digital camera, handheld flashlights, and GPS are all operating properly. We then do a road test checking the lights, sirens, and fluid levels. If something is not working it is fixed on the spot. Sure somethings have to be done professionally but not very often. That is what is done for just one truck and to many it may seem like a huge pain in the ass. But lets face it, I know exactly where every piece of equipment is and generally can tell just by looking what piece is missing when on mop up or clearing from a major incident. Not many people can say that. We've been doing this for several years now and it is still a work in progress. As far as the station it is each crew responsiblilty to maintain each station. All in all its a great system. So the next time you ever wonder what many fire fighters do when that are not running calls. Remember that there is work to be done and we don't just sit around all day on firelink..LOL

Posted 3 months ago Granthamvfd said: Yea, Ambulances everyday should be a given. I hope that all departments are in agreement of this! We do try to do daily checks on the engine or ladder but it doesn't always get done. Still very important!

Posted 11 days ago We have trainings every Tuesday night. We're supposed to do truck checks every month but for some reason, our department slacks on that

Posted 11 days ago We do ours monthly. Wed evening training before Co meeting. All equipment gets checked, exercised, worked, inventoried. The senior members take a crew and check that rig they are assigned too. there is also a SCBA crew, and small gas engines crew. The next month we rotate out to another rig. so the Jr members and the less experience also learn tool placement and operation of the equipment

Posted 11 days ago What are checks..... We had someone walk away with a ladder off the engine. We now have no regular ladder so if someone has a spare one out there we can use it :)

| Posted 11 days ago Daily Checks on all of our trucks,,,Fluid levels, belts, hoses, tires, wheels/hubs, lights, warning devices, tools, generators, air packs, attack lines, pump pressure and operation, medical bag (count everything down to the last band-aid), O2 bottle, K-12 saws, smoke ejectors, all Hurst tools and generator, AED's, thermo camera, fire radios and airfield radios, truck mounted extinguishers, ladders, roof and bumper turrets, and fuzzy dice. we check it all out but we have a dedicated days on a weekly basis where the power equipment, confined space, spill and HAZMAT trailers are signed off in the books. Ladder Testing is done by an outside source on an annual basis. We perform our hose testing in house once a year. There is a lot that we have to check daily and weekly and I'm sure I forgot to list something

Posted 8 days ago We have a person assigned to each piece of apparatus, once a week ever piece of equipment is checked and ran as well as all of the system functions like lights, sirens, pumps, oil level, fluids, etc. The ambulances are kind of self checking because each time you use some thing you should be restocking it afterwords but we still have weekly checks of all the supplies as well as belts, coolant, oil, etc.

Posted 8 days ago We do daily inspections on our Ambulances. Everything is check top to bottom. Once a month we do a "health and safety" inspection where we pull everything out and wash down the cabinets. When I was a firefighter, on our full time department we did a daily vehicle inspection. Air bags, tools, hydraulics, cutters, and spreaders were checked once a week. On our volunteer department, we did a weekly vehicle inspection.

We do the same on our ambulances except we wash it inside and out each Saturday. Sooner if we end up in Dyke. Yes, I said that. It's WAAAY up in the moutains and we need a 4 wheel drive to get there. We bring out the "beast "for thse calls! It's my favorite truck though. I swear it's 30 years old! For an ambulance, that's old! |

Posted 7 days ago we check every last thing down to the band-aid and the same on the fire apparatus... everything gets ran and airpacks get a daily function check... the truck is washed everyday... once a week everything is taken out and detailed... and once a month there is a fine tooth comb ran over it... i like checking the trucks out every day because in C school i leared that the shift before you is a bunch of lazy SOBs and the shift behind you is a bunch of cry babies
